Gandhi’s Ashram

Today we visited the Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad where Ghandi used to live for several years. It was a quiet peaceful place and I loved reading all his quotes. So here are my favorite quotes and prayings for you:

My life is my message.

This world is inhabitated by all kinds of people. They are isolated by land and water, customs, religions, habits. The minds and hearts of these people are much alike. Under sudden or stressed emotionsthey blossom forth or explode in riots, fights, dance, song, prayer. At such times, they become one mind, one heart. And the world vibrates with the intensity of their feelings, emotions, anger, laughter.

I do not believe in the doctrine of the greatest good of the greatest number. It means in its nakedness that in order to achieve the supposed good of 51 percent the interest of 49 percent may be or rather should be sacrificed. It is a heartless doctrine and has done harm to humanity. The one real, dignified, human doctrine is the greatest good of all and this can only be achieved by uttermost self-sacrifice.

There come to us moments in life when about some things we need no proof from without. A little voice within us tells us, “You are on the right track, move neither to your left nor right, but keep to the straight and narrow way.

There are moments in your life when you must act, even though you cannot carry your best friends with you. The ‘still small voice’ within you must always be the final arbiter when there is a conflict of duty.

Having made a ceaseless effort to attain self-purification, I have developed some little capacity to hear correctly and clearly the ‘still small voice within’.

Lord of humility, dwelling in the little pariah hut, help us to search for thee throughout, that fair land watered by Ganges, Brahmaputra and Jumma.

Give us receptiveness, give us open heartedness, give us Thy humility, give us the ability and willingness to identify ourselves with the masses of India.

Oh god, who does help only when manfeels utterly humble, grant that we maynot be isolated from the people we would serve as servants and friends.

Let us be the embodiments to self-sacrifice,embodiments of godliness, humility personified, that we may know the land better and love it more.

Weather you find some truth in these words or not I wanted to share it with you, because Gandhi is for me that kind of person who completely understood the power of love and that there is nothing more important in life as treading each other with respect and kindness.

 Yours Kristin
